The climate includes pleasant but windy daytime temperatures, chilly nights, and the possibility of temperatures dropping below zero, especially during rain and snow in September and October.
Manali serves as the starting point of this trek. The route takes you through lush green forests of pine, fir, oak, and cedar and across meadows adorned with wildflowers, often intersected by sparkling streams. The trek begins from Shuru, a village located around 8 kilometres from the main town of Manali. It offers stunning landscapes, allowing trekkers to enjoy panoramic views of snow-capped high mountains, including Indrasan (6220 m), Inderkilla (6000 m), and Deo-Tibba (6001 m). As you approach Hamta Pass, which separates the boundaries of Kullu and Spiti, you can enjoy a commanding view as these mountain ranges stretch out before you. The trek also provides ample opportunities to explore glaciers and moraines in this part of the Himalayas.
Day 01: Manali – Tilgan Thach (2650 m) (4 hours)
The route includes villages and Himalayan deciduous alpine forest with a steep climb.
Day 02: Tilgan Thach – Roadikhodi (3800 m) (5 hours)
This leg involves high alpine meadows, a tarn, and sparse vegetation such as rhododendron, Himalayan silver birch, and juniper bushes. The walk is flat to gradual.
Day 03: Roadikhodi – Marhi (3200 m) (about 5 hours) via Piyangniru (3700 m)
This part features rhododendron, Himalayan silver birch, and juniper bushes. The descent is steep, and the walk is flat to gradual.
Day 04: Marhi – Rest Day to explore the surroundings.
Day 05: Marhi - Balu Ka Ghera (5 hours walk)
This is a gradual walk. Initially, it is through the forest and meadow, and later, it is alpine with snowy and rocky terrain.
Day 06: Balu Ka Ghera Over Hampta pass to Shila Gheru (5-6 hours)
The walk is on snow and rocky fields throughout the alpine terrain, with tremendous views of the mountain peaks and hanging glaciers. There is a gradual to steep climb in the last part.
Day 07: Shila Gheru – Chattru (3-4 hours) steep descent.
From Chattru, drive to Manali (5 hours).
During the trek, we provide accommodation in high-altitude alpine tents, meals, experienced guides, camping equipment, ponies or porters, a medical kit, and transportation.
