Glacial melt water as well as spring water is safe to drink directly from the source. However, the water may be too mineral rich for some people. If that is the case, you may carry some chlorine pills to add to the water. All water that is used on the campsite will be boiled prior.
Depending on the route, there is the option to stay with a family in a village along the way (homestay style), to camp, or to stay in Swiss tent with an attached toilet.
If camping, a toilet tent will be set up: a hole is dug in the ground and a tent is pitched around it for privacy. We aim to minimise our impact on the routes as far as possible. Showering may be a luxury on some routes.
